I have enjoyed every book in the Mitford series & this one now more than all the previous. Maybe it was the timing in my own life...i read this book as I travelled home for my Grandma's funeral. This had a bit of a slow start for me but ended up being a very powerful read. A good read that fits neatly after the events in Light From Heaven.

Truth be told it reminded me of my childhood days listening to my parents and family talk about the old days. Given this, and other content, including a rape scene that could have been less detailed, I was unable to give this book a higher rating, though the writing was very well done. I've waited a long time to read this further installment of the Mitford books because I was unsure how I'd feel about some of the darker subject matter.
